Our annual travel law conference took place on Thursday 19th October at Outer Temple Chambers, London. Topics included Spanish Penalty Interest, Co-counselling on Clinical Negligence claims aboard, a panel session on running clinical negligence abroad and navigating turbulent topics in aviation claims. We were delighted to have been joined by a esteemed line-up of external speakers, from the UK and across the globe.

Ian Denham is a leading personal injury and travel law barrister at Outer Temple Chambers, with particular expertise in matters involving serious and catastrophic injuries, wrongful deaths, clinical negligence and cross-border personal injury claims. Ian’s main area of specialism is cases with an international element. His cross-border practice covers advising on jurisdiction, applicable law, direct rights of action against insurers, claims against the MIB, accidents in the air and on sea, and claims involving a cross-border employment aspect. Ian has also advised on the potential implications arising from Brexit.
Ian has considerable expertise in regard to advising upon claims involving the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 and in particular as to disputes arising from the relevant local standards. Ian is well versed in acting in Aviation and Maritime claims and recently advised a client in respect of an employment issue concerning his Super Yacht.
Ian is the PEOPIL representative for England & Wales.
Michal is a personal injury lawyer at BFP Law Firm in Poland. He specialises in medical malpractice and product liability cases, representing hundreds of clients across the country, as well as residents of other countries that seek compensation for injuries sustained whilst in Poland.
His particular interest concerns cases of medical negligence during childbirth, as well as medical device product liability (particularly MoM hip implants). He continues to be involved in several high profile cases that attracted media coverage.
He also handles RTA and aviation accidents, most notably the case of the crash landing of the LOT airlines Boeing 767 aircraft at the Okęcie Airport in Warsaw, Poland, in cooperation with British and American law firms. Michał also heads the firm’s English Desk, which cooperates on a regular basis with various foreign law firms seeking advice on Polish law in cross-border personal injury cases.
Joakim Jäderström is a Partner at Legare Advokatbyrå with law offices in Stockholm, Umeå and Västerås. For more than 20 years, Legare has assisted clients in personal injury and other tort and insurance matters and they are one of the few law firms in Sweden with this specialization. Joakim’s main areas of expertise are claims involving road traffic accidents, medical negligence and claims with a cross-border dimension. Joakim represents claimants and acts regularly on behalf of claimants in Swedish courts. He is also a lecturer in Insurance law at the Institute of Business Administration in Stockholm and is often engaged as a speaker on personal injury law topics.
Joakim is the PEOPIL Board member for Sweden.
Cemre is an international personal injury claims lawyer in the Netherlands. She has studied Dutch Law in Leiden and Turkish Law in Istanbul and Samsun. After having worked at the Court of Rotterdam District, Flyct Letselschade, and several law firms in the United Kingdom and Turkey, she founded law firm CYA Law Firm in 2022.
Her practice includes insurance and injury, transport and aviation, real estate, arbitration and dispute resolution. She specialises in assisting clients through the complex web of international laws and works closely with other leading independent law firms in Europe, America, Australia and Asia, so that it is possible to approach the best firm for assistance on a case-by-case basis.
