On Thursday 19th October, Outer Temple’s Travel Law team and esteemed guests discussed all things travel law at our annual Travel Law seminar. Dan Clarke and Ana Romero Porro kick- started the seminar with their talk on Spanish penalty interest.

Our annual travel law conference took place on Thursday 19th October at Outer Temple Chambers, London. Topics included Spanish Penalty Interest, Co-counselling on Clinical Negligence claims aboard, a panel session on running clinical negligence abroad and navigating turbulent topics in aviation claims. We were delighted to have been joined by a line-up of esteemed external speakers, from the UK and across the globe.

The first session of the day, present by Dan Clarke (OTC) and Ana Romero Porro (PEOPIL President & Partner, Astrom Legal, Spain) was on the topic of Spanish penalty interest. The recording is available below.

Ana Romero Porro

Ana is a recognised litigator specialising in personal injury claims and has over twenty years of experience representing Spanish and International victims. She is one of the founding partners of ASTROM Legal, based in Malaga. Her work involves several different backgrounds including travel related claims, clinical negligence, product liability and accidents at work.

Ana has also been a Governor of the American Association for Justice and currently co-chairs the International Practice Section. She is an Associate Lecturer in Tort Law at the International University of Andalucía and the University of Málaga.

Ana is the current president of PEOPIL.

Dan Clarke

Dan is a leading travel law and personal injury junior. He has a particular specialism in cases with an international element, including claims raising conflicts of law and jurisdictional issues. He was junior counsel in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in the leading case of Brownlie (No. 2). Dan also has experience of acting in claims in other jurisdictions including in the Privy Council and in Jersey.

He undertakes clinical negligence work for both claimants and defendants and receives regular instructions from NHS Trusts. He has acted in a number of claims involving negligently performed breast surgery including surgeries abroad. He also appears at medical inquests, representing both families and NHS trusts. Dan is a CEDR accredited mediator.
