Earlier in the year, Outer Temple Chambers hosted an afternoon of talks at our Pensions Law Conference Series in Bristol. Our leading pensions barristers discussed all things pensions law. This was a hybrid event and the recordings are now available online. Nicolas Stallworthy KC and Victoria Brown presented a talk on ‘Section 57 of the Trustee Act 1925; A novel jurisdiction for schemes with restricted amendment powers’.
The full slide deck from this presentation can be found here.
Nick is one of the most highly regarded practitioners at the pensions bar, with specialist knowledge of almost all issues affecting pensions schemes. Legal 500 describe him as a “an intellectual giant and tireless worker and inspirational litigation lead counsel in the shoes of an affable gentleman.” His cases have concerned the interpretation of trust deeds & rules and legislation, the scope and exercise of powers, the application of equitable doctrines in the pensions context, rectification, the employer debt and scheme funding legislation, the powers of the Pensions Regulator, pensions and insolvency, European law’s impact on pension schemes and pensions-related professional negligence claims (concerning solicitors, insurance companies, benefits consultants, professional trustees, actuaries & investment advisers).
Victoria is a leading pensions junior with a practice spanning pure pensions issues as well as professional negligence claims and crossover employment/discrimination issues. She has experience in advisory work, litigation and regulatory matters. Her work includes issues of construction, rectification, the limits of amendment powers, s37 matters, equalisation, indexation, and severance. Victoria has acted in a number of the most significant pensions cases of recent years. She is recognised by the directories for her intellectual ability and oral advocacy, as well as strategic input and client care.
