Sam Carter

Sam Carter is a Practice Director in the Business Law Team at Outer Temple Chambers.

Sam is responsible for the running, oversight and the strategic practice development for his respective members, assisted by George Bennett and Dave Lovitt. He manages the running and development of the International Arbitration and Commercial Litigation teams, as well as supporting other core areas of practice.

Sam has been a barristers’ clerk since 2004 and returned to Outer Temple in May 2021 having previously clerked here some years back. Since that time, he has spent many years as a senior clerk and, most recently, he was Managing Director at the International Arbitration Centre. He has a solid understanding and knowledge of the international arbitration and commercial market, having dealt with large international disputes and clients throughout London and Europe, US and Latin America, Asia Pacific and Middle-East including under some of the most common arbitral institutional rules.

Sam has a proven track record of developing new business and building strong relationships both internationally and domestically, whilst maintaining a high standard of service delivery for both members and clients. His wider experience spans many years’ in commercial, common and public law, and private client sets. He has been responsible for changing respective chambers operations, direction and reputation but also instrumental in opening international offices and presence in other jurisdictions including Washington DC and Zurich.

Sam also manages chambers’ international members and the international development plan for chambers, particularly in the Middle-East complementing Outer Temple’s strong presence and reputation in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

He takes pride in client service and understanding their needs to deliver a high standard. Sam keeps in regular contact with new and existing clients, both internationally and domestically, to ensure the same high standard of service is maintained but also improved. He also keeps a close eye on the legal market to ensure the set, services provided and its members continue to adapt and meet ever changing needs and demands of the legal industry, and its clients.
