Alex Haines and Victoria Brown successful in two cases at the World Bank Administrative Tribunal

Alex Haines and Victoria Brown successfully represented the applicants in two recent WBAT cases. The World Bank Administrative Tribunal (“WBAT”) delivered last week its 8th November 2021 judgments in Cases Nos. 659 (GH v International Finance Corporation) and 660 (GI v International Finance Corporation).  Alex Haines and Victoria Brown represented two Heads of Funds at the International Finance Corporation (“IFC”), one of the five World Bank Group Agencies together with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (“IBRD”), International Development Association (“IDA”), International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (“ICSID”) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (“MIGA”). John McKendrick QC, Nicholas Johnson QC and Alex Haines were instructed on behalf of the Respondent in an international commercial dispute worth over £115 million. Between January and April 2020, John McKendrick QC, Nicholas Johnson QC and Alex Haines were instructed on behalf of the Respondent in an international commercial dispute worth over £115 million. The dispute was between two parties in a former Soviet Republic, involving high value commodities. The arbitration took place under LCIA Rules and John and Alex represented the respondent at the hearing, which took place virtually. One witness was cross-examined from his overseas location and the legal representatives and Tribunal all participated remotely. Teresa Rosen Peacocke; significant ruling for international commercial arbitrations

The Court of Appeal has delivered a significant ruling on evidence in international commercial arbitrations. Teresa Rosen Peacocke was successful in seeking support of the English court in a case based in New York.   Teresa Rosen Peacocke, with Richard Lissack QC and Leonora Sagan of Fountain Court Chambers, succeeded in the Court of Appeal in A v C [2020] EWCA Civ 409. They acted for the successful Appellants in this appeal with legal significance to the arbitration community.
