‘Employing precautions’ Bianca Venkata published in the Solicitors Journal

Bianca Venkata has been published in the July 2020 edition of the Solicitors Journal for her article considering the impact of the pandemic on employment firms. Bianca provides an overview of the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on employment law firms, litigation in the employment tribunal, and health and safety and GDPR considerations in the work place. She also considers the balance between protecting vulnerable groups from covid-19 with avoiding discrimination. Bianca looks at the potential for future litigation arising out of employment discrimination, particularly with regards to employers who adopt policies based on the vulnerability of particular groups to the virus. The problem with Death Benefits for NHS Locum Practitioners

Despite working tirelessly in the current crisis, families of locum doctors could miss out on death benefits if they die on a much needed day off. A quirk in the rules of the NHS Pension Scheme 1995, as interpreted by the High Court in Sanderson v NHSBA [2019] EWHC 2900 (Ch), means that the relatives of locum doctors may suffer from significantly reduced death benefits if they die on a day they are not in fact working.
