With members already based in London, Middle East, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, New York, Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, Russia and India, we are pleased to now have a presence in South Africa with Warren Shapiro SC joining the OTC team as a door tenant.
Warren was called to the Bar in South Africa in 2001, and took silk in 2021. Apart from sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge and a Labour Court Judge periodically since 2021, he is retained as an arbitrator in commercial and community scheme disputes. Warren’s practice is largely in commercial and administrative law, with a portion being in employment law and restraint of trade law. He has appeared as sole counsel (as junior and as a silk) in all levels of courts in South Africa, including the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court. His court work spans trial advocacy (trials and arbitrations) as well as submissions advocacy – including opposed motions, appeals and administrative law reviews.
From 2005 to 2010, Warren lectured Motion Court Practice to pupils and then transitioned to advocacy training, where he has been a trainer since 2010 and an advanced trainer since 2014.
Director of Clerking, Chris Gittins said of Warren’s arrival, “We are delighted to welcome Warren to the team and expand our reach to Africa. Warren is a prominent legal figure in South Africa and will further enhance our acclaimed international team.”
