Clinical Negligence

Outer Temple Chambers was awarded the Chambers UK Bar Awards Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Set of the Year in 2017.

Chambers is seeking applications for tenancy from practitioners with an established practice in all areas of Clinical Negligence work. We cover both Claimant and Defendant work. The defence instructions are accepted from all NHSR panel solicitors along with instructions from all the major Indemnifiers, either in house or from external solicitors.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to develop both their own practice, and assist the team in increasing Chambers’ profile in the area of Clinical Negligence work.

Commercial Litigation

Outer Temple Chambers has been consistently listed as one the Lawyer’s Top 30 sets, with individual barristers ranked by the directories as leaders in Banking & Finance, Commercial Chancery, Commercial Dispute Resolution, Financial Services and Pensions.

We are seeking practitioners who currently practise in commercial and chancery litigation and advisory work complementary to our core areas of practice, including banking litigation (involving the mis-selling of financial derivatives by banks and banking disputes related to the construction and validity of banking documentation), financial services regulations, commercial contract disputes and professional negligence. We practise in these (and many other) areas of work internationally, particularly in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and New York. Chambers is very successfully building on its reputation in these locations to encourage work from other legal centres in East Asia and the Far East.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop both their own practice, and assist the team in increasing Chambers’ profile in the above areas of work.

Employment & Discrimination

Outer Temple Chambers is a pre-eminent set in the field of Employment and Discrimination Law, ranked as a leading set with many barristers recognised by legal directories as leaders in their field. Outer Temple was awarded Employment Set of the Year at the Chambers UK Bar Awards 2019. The team boasts four silks and thirty juniors, practising in employment tribunal and High Court claims and regularly appearing at all appellate levels.

Chambers is now seeking applications from established employment practitioners of 7-12 years’ call or with equivalent experience.

The successful candidate(s) will be willing and able to develop their own practice, and that of Chambers, as part of the wider group of employment barristers.

Financial Crime

Outer Temple Chambers has been consistently listed as one the Lawyer’s Top 30 sets, with individual barristers ranked as leaders in their field by Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500 in Financial Crime and Financial Crime (Corporates), Financial Services, POCA & Asset Forfeiture, Business and Regulatory Crime (including Global Investigations), Fraud (Crime).

We are seeking a senior junior tenant, of 10+ years call (or with equivalent experience) who currently practises in financial crime, with a client base that complements our work in this area. This would involve advising and representing banks, financial institutions, companies, company officers and high profile individuals facing allegations of fraud, market abuse & insider dealing, bribery & corruption, cross-border investigations and sanctions violations. Our work within this field often crosses over into regulatory and civil proceedings, cross-over expertise of this type specific to a financial crime practice would be highly advantageous.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop both their own practice, and assist the team in increasing Chambers profile in the area of Financial Crime.

Health & Safety

Outer Temple Chambers is ranked as a leading Health & Safety set with several barristers recognised for their excellence in the directories. We have a strong record of supporting our tenants through to Silk.

We are seeking applications for tenancy from practitioners with an established, broad practice in all areas of Health & Safety work.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to develop both their own practice, and assist the team in increasing Chambers’ reputation in the area of Health & Safety.

Pensions

Outer Temple Chambers has been consistently listed as one the Lawyer’s Top 30 sets. Our specialist pensions team of 7 KC’s and 18 juniors command a significant presence in the pensions field, their expertise reflected in the leading legal directories. We have for many years been involved in the most significant pensions work of the day.

We are seeking applications for tenancy from practitioners with an established, broad practice in areas of pensions work.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to develop both their own practice, and assist the team in increasing Chambers’ reputation in this area.

Personal Injury

Outer Temple Chambers is proud to have been recognised as Personal Injury Set of the Year at the Chambers UK Bar Awards 2023. In 2017, we were ranked Set of The Year for Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury.

Chambers is seeking applications for tenancy from practitioners with established practices in all areas of catastrophic injury. We are instructed by Claimants and Defendants.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to develop both their own practice and assist the team in increasing Chambers’ profile in the area of Personal Injury claims.

Private Client

Outer Temple Chambers won the Chambers of the Year category at the STEP Private Client Awards in 2018. Members of our team have extensive expertise in Private Client work. This includes family asset and governance structure planning, estate planning, probate, inheritance disputes, the administration of estates and trust disputes.

Chambers is seeking applications for tenancy from practitioners with established practices in the private client arena.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to develop both their own practice and assist the team in increasing Chambers’ reputation in this area.

Public Law

Our public law team undertakes a range of work in the Administrative Court, First Tier and Upper Tribunal, Court of Protection, High Court (Family Division) and the higher courts, as well as associated advisory work. There is a particular emphasis on the Court of Protection, education law, local government, healthcare and social welfare law, and on public law issues connected with Chambers’ existing specialisms in other areas, including international work.

Chambers is ranked as a leading set in Chambers & Partners 2021 for Court of Protection, and our barristers are regularly instructed by the Office of Public Guardian and by the Official Solicitor. Many team members are appointed to the Government Legal Department’s London A, B and C panels. We have a strong record in supporting successful applications for silk.

We welcome applications from practitioners with at least 5 years’ experience who can demonstrate strong intellectual ability, a proactive and successful approach to practice development and expertise in one or more of the following areas of our public law work: central and local government, judicial review of public bodies, statutory regulation, healthcare and serious medical treatment decisions, social care and mental health, the Court of Protection, education, professional discipline, discrimination, and government panel work. The successful candidate(s) will be willing and able to develop their own practice, and that of Chambers, as part of the wider group of public law barristers at Outer Temple Chambers.
