James Counsell KC to attend the DIFC Laws Certificate Programme Awarding Ceremony

Head of Chambers, James Counsell KC will be attending (remotely) the DIFC Laws Certificate Programme Awarding Ceremony on behalf of Outer Temple Chambers on Tuesday 13th December 2022. The DIFC Laws Certificate Programme is a course organised by the DIFC Academy. Over the course of a 7-month programme, it aims to provide education and training in common law and DIFC laws and courts procedures to civil law lawyers, DIFC Courts practitioners, Emirati advocates, In-house counsel and other professionals whose work involves exposure to common law systems and jurisdictions. There are three parts to the Advanced Advocacy course given by Outer Temple Chambers barristers, each part over two days. Lucian ILIE to moderate at IBA Arb40 – Award Writing Workshop

Lucian ILIE will be moderating at the International Bar Association’s upcoming event entitled ‘IBA Arb40 – Award Writing Workshop’ which is being held in London on 25th November 2022. The IBA Arb40 Toolkit was created by the International Bar Association’s Arb40 Subcommittee to assist young arbitration practitioners in drafting of their first arbitral awards.  It offers practical guidance and tips for getting started, and writing, a reasoned and enforceable award. Daniel Barnett raises £12,920 for the Teenage Cancer Trust through an employment law seminar

Jonathan Hand KC and David Holloway lead the third Advanced Advocacy session for the DIFC Academy

Outer Temple’s Jonathan Hand KC and David Holloway lead the third Advanced Advocacy session for the DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre) Academy on the 10th and 11th of October 2022. Jonathan Hand KC and David Holloway were the course tutors for the last of the three Advanced Advocacy sessions that the DIFC Academy put on again this year in association with OTC. The first day dealt with appeal advocacy, including presentations and workshops on written and oral advocacy. The second day was the Advocacy Assessment when all of the participants took part in an oral hearing held at the DIFC Court. David Holloway speaks at Taiwan Arbitration Week

David Holloway was invited to speak at the Taiwan Arbitration Week, which took place in Taipei between 3th-7th October. David spoke on the topic of party-appointed experts in international arbitration. The week commencing October 3rd was Taiwan Arbitration Week, a week to expand the understanding of arbitration and mediation and other extra-litigation dispute resolution mechanisms. Outer Temple played in Mayer Brown charity 5-a-side football match

On Friday 30th September 2022, Outer Temple Chambers and Charles Russell Speechly (OTC Rangers) played in Mayer Brown’s charity 5-a-side football match. Proceeds from the event went to two great charities, Samaritans and Weavers Adventure Playground. Although OTC Rangers did not make it to the finals, we are thrilled to have made it to the semi-finals. Ultimately, we are glad that everyone had a great time and that we raised money for two worthy charities. Harry Trusted and Olinga Tahzib spoke at Professional Negligence Bar Association event

On October 6th 2022, Harry Trusted and Olinga Tahzib presented a talk on the topic of Law and Statistics entitled ‘An Introduction to Statistics’ for the Professional Negligence Bar Association (PNBA). The Professional Negligence Bar Association is an organisation with some 900 members including 80 silks. The work undertaken by its members includes generic professional indemnity issues and specialisation concerning legal, clinical, financial and construction professionals, and extends to matters of ethics, discipline, regulatory control and public law accountability.
