Cherine Ghali has been awarded Higher Rights of Audience in England and Wales

Congratulations to Cherine Ghali for recently being awarded Higher Rights of Audience (Civil Advocacy) in England and Wales. Cherine Ghali is a Professional Associate at Outer Temple Chambers. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and focuses on arbitration and alternative dispute resolution and accepts appointments to act as an Arbitrator. Robert Rhodes QC, at the request of the China Maritime Arbitration Commission, will be lecturing on the Singapore Convention on Mediation at the Forum on ADR in Shanghai on 5 November. Stephen Doherty successful in $14 million Dubai arbitration

Stephen recently acted for a high profile master developer in proceedings under the rules of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC). The arbitration related to the sale and development of commercial real estate, and the provision of infrastructure by the master developer. Stephen acted as lead counsel over the course of a four day hearing, which heard evidence from a number of expert witnesses, and successfully obtained an award exceeding $14 million on behalf of his client. Alex Haines instructed in case before United Nations Appeals Tribunal

Alex Haines, assisted by Stephen Butler, has recently been instructed in an appeal before the United Nations Appeals Tribunal (UNAT). The UNAT is the second and final instance of appeal within the UN internal system of justice.  The UNAT was established by the General Assembly in 2009 as part of the new UN internal justice system (replacing the old United Nations Administrative Tribunal). Global Arbitration Review – Chartered Institute of Arbitrators seat index launched in London

The Global Arbitration Review (GAR) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) held an event in London this month to mark the launch of the new GAR-CIArb Seat Index – which is now live and ready to access. The launch, held at Reed Smith in London on 15 November, featured a panel discussion by CIArb’s Doug Jones, Lord Goldsmith QC and Professor Janet Walker of Outer Temple Chambers, who led work on the project, following an introduction by GAR’s publisher David Samuels. The index aims to provide one-page summaries of the favourableness of individual arbitral seats assessed against a range of standard criteria. New women leaders at ICC Canada Arbitration Committee

International Chambers of Commerce, Canada (ICC Canada) has announced new women leaders of its arbitration committee and held a dinner to honour leading arbitrator Marc Lalonde QC – who received praise from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau among others. The committee said that it has appointed Tina Cicchetti as its first female chair and Janet Walker as vice-chair who will take over as chair after Cichetti’s two-year term ends, meaning the leadership will be female for the next four years.
