Fiona Horlick KC, representing the Bar Standards Board, has been instructed in a high profile case concerning Navjot “Jo” Sidhu KC who faces 15 charges of professional misconduct concerning three young women who allege that he used his status as a highly respected senior lawyer to sexually harass them. Mr Sidhu is accused of inappropriate sexual behaviour between 2016-2022 in relation to three women, all aspiring barristers, and referred to at the tribunal as complainants 1, 2 and 3. James Leonard KC has been instructed in the 62 inquests into the conduct of former consultant breast surgeon Ian Paterson, an NHS doctor also operating in the private sector. Ian Paterson, a former consultant breast surgeon, was jailed for 20 years in 2017 after being convicted of 20 counts of wounding with intent. The surgeon was employed by the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust and practised in the private sector. He was appointed as a consultant at Solihull Hospital in 1998 and practised there until May 2011. Fiona Horlick QC represented one of one consultant anaesthetists accused of gross negligence manslaughter following the death of a patient after an operation at Nobles Hospital on the Isle of Man. The case was dismissed. Fiona’s client, Dr Katherine Teare, had responded to an emergency alarm and assisted trying to revive a patient after he suffered a cardiac arrest in theatre. The prosecution case was that another anaesthetist, who had been the anaesthetist for the operation, had tried to wake the patient up after the operation, had removed the endotracheal tube and then had to reinsert it when the patient was struggling to breath and in doing so allegedly wrongly placed it in the oesophagus instead of the trachea depriving the patient…
