Two of our specialist sports law barristers, Harry Steinberg KC and Sarah Crowther KC, are delighted to welcome two highly revered figures in the football industry, Paul Barber OBE and Steve Kavanagh, for an early evening discussion on the business of management in the football industry.
Paul Barber OBE (Chief Executive and Deputy Chairman of Brighton & Hove Albion FC), and Steve Kavanagh (Chief Executive of Millwall FC and Non-Executive Director of the EFL), will discuss their roles within their clubs, the changing face of the industry, and their achievements to date.
The discussion will be followed by networking drinks.

Harry Steinberg KC is a leading silk specialising in personal injury, sports law, private international law and aviation. Harry has a working interest in the Brazilian and British football sectors, which has naturally developed an acute knowledge of the law of football. His expertise in sports law includes but is not limited to FA Rule K arbitrations (involving any combination of FA participants, including football clubs, intermediaries and players) and concussion/head injury claims in the context of participation in sports.
Sarah Crowther KC has a particular interest in safeguarding matters in sport. She has appeared in FA safeguarding proceedings and on behalf of the British Horseracing Authority. She represents and advises in investigations and proceedings and has written on safeguarding policies and implementation in sporting contexts. She has acted on behalf of individuals as well as sports organisations in cases of non-recent abuse and recent harassment claims, including before the National Safeguarding Panel, in the High Court and employment tribunal.
Paul Barber OBE is Chief Executive Officer & Deputy Chairman of Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club. Paul’s career in professional football has spanned close to 25 years, during which time he has held senior positions at Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC and The Football Association. He joined the board of Brighton & Hove Albion FC as the club’s Chief Executive in June 2012, and was promoted to Deputy Chairman in November 2018. Paul was elected by Premier League clubs to The FA Council and to the Professional Game Board, which oversees the running of professional football in England. He has recently won the award for ‘Premier League CEO of the year’ and has been recognised for his services to football in the 2023 New Year Honours List.
Steve Kavanagh is the Chief Executive Officer at Millwall Football Club. Steve was previously Chief Executive Officer at Southend United Football Club, and Director of Finance at Charlton Athletic Football Club before joining Millwall FC in 2016. Steve has recently been appointed to the EFL Board and is a Trustee of The Millwall Community Trust.
