Charlotte joined Chambers in 2023 following successful completion of her pupillage.
Charlotte has a broad practice, including public law and sanctions, commercial litigation, insolvency, pensions and employment. She is a member of the Attorney General’s Junior Junior Scheme.
Prior to starting pupillage, Charlotte was the Singer Fellow in Law and Ethics at Exeter College, University of Oxford, where she taught Medical Law, Criminal Law, Trusts and Jurisprudence. Her research focuses on the regulation of emerging technologies and public health law, and she has published on issues ranging from the UK Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic to the regulation of human embryo research. During her academic career, Charlotte was involved in policy making at a national level, providing evidence to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee, and at an international level at the Council of Europe.
Charlotte read for her DPhil at Balliol College, Oxford, her Master’s at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and her undergraduate degree at the University of Birmingham where she graduated first in her year.
Charlotte has experience across a range of public law matters, including the education, Inquests, and advising on judicial review of decisions under the Housing Act 1985 and the Children’s Act 1989.
Recent instructions have included acting for the family in a two-day inquest which resulted in the coroner ordering an extensive Regulation 28 report, and acting for Local Authorities in EHCP challenges to sections B, F & I.
Charlotte regularly accepts instructions in the County Court in business and commercial matters.
Recent matters include successful applications for relief from sanctions, Pre-Action disclosure and strike out.
Charlotte appears for Petitioners, Creditors and Companies in the Insolvency & Companies list and in disputed debt hearings.
During pupillage, Charlotte gained assisted in Commercial Fraud litigation, as well as committal proceedings arising from commercial fraud litigation.
Charlotte regularly appears in preliminary and substantive hearings across the range of employment litigation for both claimant’s and defendants. She has experience of discrimination claims, whistleblowing claims, unfair dismissals and issues relating to worker status.
During pupillage, Charlotte assisted on pensions matters including professional negligence claims against scheme administrators and scheme actuaries. She is currently instructed in a matter before The Pensions Regulator (led by Michael Uberoi).
Charlotte has a busy Court of Protection practice, regularly acting for and advising NHS trusts and Local Authorities across the range of welfare and financial matters.
Recent instructions include a multi-day trial on behalf of an NHS trust in a s.16A matter, acting for a Local Authority in a s.21A challenge (ongoing) and obtaining a Deputyship order for a Local Authority in a contested application.
Charlotte’s academic background in Medical Law and her experience before the SEND Tribunal mean she is especially well placed to advise on welfare matters involving young people owed simultaneous duties under the Mental Health Act, the Children and Families Act 2014 and the Care Act 2014.
Charlotte has a growing practice in sanctions, assisting on challenges to designation decisions made under the Russia (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2018.
Charlotte accepts instructions from executive agencies and public bodies across a range of regulatory matters. Recent matters include securing convictions at trial for the DVSA, as well as advising pre-trial in other instructions.
