Claire van Overdijk invited to speak at European law Institute – Protection of Adults in International Situations Seminar

Claire van Overdijk has been invited to speak at an upcoming European Law Institute (ELI) event in Milan supported by the European Union. The European Law Institute,  founded in June 2011 is an entirely independent organisation, supported by the European Union with the aim of improving both the quality of European law and legal development and understanding.

Claire is set to take part in a panel session seminar on 22 March, focusing on “The Notion of ‘Measure of Protection’ and the Relationship between the Law of Adults’ Protection and Neighbouring Fields of Law”, within the overarching theme of the protection of adults in international situations.

Claire’s involvement in this event follows on from a joint European Commission and Hague Conference on Private International Law conference, that took place in Brussels from 5-7 December 2018 where she was also invited as one of a select number of international specialists in this area.

Claire has extensive experience in mental capacity law, is ranked by Chambers and Partners for her expertise in the jurisdiction of the Court of Protection (Health & Welfare and Property & Affairs) and is described as “go-to counsel for international mental capacity matters”.

As well as being an editor of Court of Protection Practice (LexisNexis) and a correspondent for the Private Client Business Journal, Claire is an author of International Protection of Adults (OUP), a text which has widely benefitted private client practitioners working in the complex area of cross border mental capacity law.

In her spare time, Claire serves as Deputy Chair of the STEP Mental Capacity Global SIG Steering Committee, Secretary of the Court of Protection Barristers Association, and a committee member of COPPA (London).
