Outer Temple Chambers welcome new pupils Charlotte Elves and Katherine Hampshire

Outer Temple Chambers are delighted to have recently taken on new pupils Charlotte Elves and Katherine Hampshire, who commenced their pupillage with us on 1st September 2022.

We are pleased to welcome new pupils Charlotte Elves and Katherine Hampshire to our set. We are sure that they will gain excellent experience and thrive during their pupillage at Outer Temple Chambers.

Charlotte Elves

Prior to starting pupillage, Charlotte was the Singer Fellow in Medical Law and Ethics at Exeter College, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the regulation of emerging technologies and public health law, and she has published on issues ranging from the UK Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic to the regulation of human embryo research.

Charlotte says “As my career in the law moves from the library to the courtroom, I am thrilled to be taking this journey under the supervision of the brilliant and affable barristers and clerks at Outer Temple.”

Katherine Hampshire

Katherine Hampshire graduated from her undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford with a First in Jurisprudence.

During her master’s she was a research assistant to Imogen Gould and Cressida Auckland, and also worked as a Civil Servant in the Department of International Trade. She continued in her Civil Service role during her BPC at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy, from which she graduated as the top performing student in her final Examination in Chief assessment.

Head of Pupillage- Saul Margo

Head of Pupillage, Saul Margo says “We are delighted to welcome Katherine and Charlotte to Chambers. They overcame stiff competition to obtain pupillage at OTC and we look forward to being part of what is hopefully a successful and enjoyable year ahead for all three of them.”

Prior to starting pupillage, Charlotte Elves was the Singer Fellow in Medical Law and Ethics at Exeter College, University of Oxford, where she taught Medical Law, Criminal Law, and Jurisprudence. Her research focuses on the regulation of emerging technologies and public health law, and she has published on issues ranging from the UK Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic to the regulation of human embryo research. During her academic career, Charlotte was involved in policy making at a national level, providing evidence to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee, and at an international level at the Council of Europe.

Charlotte read for her DPhil at Balliol College, Oxford, her Master’s at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and her undergraduate degree at the University of Birmingham where she graduated first in her year.

Katherine Hampshire graduated from her undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford with a First in Jurisprudence, as well as the Law Network Prize for Outstanding Results and Degree Performance and the Tutorial Committee prize for Outstanding Results. Prior to commencing her undergraduate degree, Katherine worked for Berkshire NHS CAMHS. During her undergraduate degree, she completed internships at Save the Children International and Deloitte LLP.

Katherine was awarded a Distinction and the Tempany Prize in Medical Ethics and Law in her master’s degree in Medical Ethics and Law at King’s College London. During her master’s she was a research assistant to Imogen Gould and Cressida Auckland, and also worked as a Civil Servant in the Department of International Trade. She continued in her Civil Service role during her BPC at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy, from which she graduated as the top performing student in her final Examination in Chief assessment.
