Ian Denham hosted a panel session on seeking justice following tragedy at Outer Temple’s Travel Law Conference in Manchester with guests Thomas Ricard, Mark Harvey and Jennifer Lund. The recording is now available.

Outer Temple Chambers hosted a Travel Law Conference in Manchester on 17th March 2022 together with a selection of esteemed guests from the travel law industry. This was a hybrid event and the recordings are now available online. The last session of the day was “Seeking Justice Following Tragedy”. Chaired by Head of the Travel Law Team, Ian Denham, panel members were:

About the presenters

Ian Denham, Barrister

Ian Denham is a leading personal injury and travel law practitioner with a particular expertise in matters involving serious and catastrophic injuries, wrongful deaths, clinical negligence and cross-border personal injury claims. Ian’s main area of specialism is cases with an international element. His cross-border practice covers advising on jurisdiction, applicable law, direct rights of action against insurers, claims against the MIB, accidents in the air and on sea, and claims involving a cross-border employment aspect. Ian has also advised on the potential implications arising from Brexit.

Thomas Ricard, JP Karsenty & Associés (France)

Thomas’ practice focuses on commercial litigation, antitrust and whitecollar crime. He is admitted as a Solicitor in England & Wales and a member of the Paris Bar. He started his career at Linklaters in London before joining their Paris office, where he worked in the competition and litigation departments. Thomas is the Former Secrétaire de la Conférence of the Paris Bar.

Mark Harvey, Hugh James

Mark is the partner in charge of the Specialist Claims Group at Hugh James in Cardiff and London, as well as leading its London office.

He has obtained compensation for many individual victims of defective products as well as those of accidents overseas and from travel. He has been involved in claims in Africa, Australia, Britain, Europe and the United States from medicines, medical devices and transport failures including air crashes and boat sinkings.

He is a one of only 13 (and the only one in Wales) Senior Fellows of APIL for whom he is an accredited Accidents and Illnesses Abroad Specialist Assessor. He is immediate past UK Governor of AAJ and past-chair of its International Practice Section. He is Wales’ first and only member of PEOPIL where he is the chair of the Pharmaceutical, Product Liability and Mass Tort Exchange Group and serves as a member of the European Commission’s Product Liability Directive working group. He has been described as a “Leader in Personal Injury and Product Liability” in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 and is in Legal 500’s Hall of Fame.

Jennifer Lund, Irwin Mitchell

Jennifer is a Partner in Irwin Mitchell’s London International Serious Injury Team, leading a team of cross-border lawyers.

Jennifer is a Spanish-speaker, running high-value cross-jurisdictional cases across the globe, most of which involve multiple fatalities, serious brain and spinal injury, or complex medical negligence. She also has significant experience in oil & gas-related actions, terrorism cases, Coronial proceedings involving international fatalities & counter-intelligence / issues of a sensitive governmental nature, as well as hybrid PI/insolvency claims.

Jennifer is recognised by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500, with Legal 500 describing her as “[having] wide experience dealing with claims abroad, particularly in Spain, and knows the ins and outs of foreign laws, which is extremely helpful for clients who have been injured abroad.”
