The Equine Injury team at Outer Temple Chambers hosted The Equine Seminar on 1st March 2023 alongside a line up of some the industry’s best known experts. Chaired by Jonathan Hand KC, topics included a Legal Update, a look at the Animals Act from an expert’s point of view, a discussion on the recent judgment in Schoultz v Ball [2022] EWHC 2452 (KB), and a discussion on the recent Freddy Tylicki case, amongst other issues in the sport.
We were delighted to welcome guest speakers, and experts in their field, Anne-Marie Taylor, Charlie Lane, Clare Garnett, Richard Brooks and professional jockey, Saffie Osborne.
The fourth talk of the day came from professional horseracing jockey Saffie Osborne discussing her career in racing, and Outer Temples Chambers’ Carin Hunt. Carin has a broad practice with specialisms in personal injury as well as clinical negligence, travel, and public law. She takes instructions in a broad range of personal injury cases including accidents at work, road traffic accidents, and claims arising under the Animals Act 1971, the Highways Act 1989, and the OLA 1957.

As part of her personal injury practice, in which she acts for both Claimants and Defendants, Carin regularly appears at trial, CCMC’s, application hearings, and infant settlement approval hearings. She takes instructions in a broad range of personal injury cases including accidents at work, historic sexual abuse, road traffic accidents, and claims arising under the Animals Act 1971, the Highways Act 1989, and the OLA 1957.
Saffie Osborne is a professional horseracing jockey making waves in the racing world. A former Eventing champion, she is in high demand and we are delighted that she has offered to make time whilst on the racing circuit to speak at this event about her life and experience. From a racing family, she has experienced and overcome career threatening injury and endured online abuse to become one of the leading riders in the the Racing League.
