Advocacy training at the DIFC Academy of Law, with members of Outer Temple Chambers

We are pleased to announce that in collaboration with the DIFC Academy, members of Outer Temple Chambers will provide training on Common Law Advanced Advocacy Skills. The DIFC Academy of Law have launched this course for Emirati Advocates and other civil law trained lawyers, in-house counsel, and legal professionals seeking to diversify their skills and enhance their professional development. Defence struck out following breach, Jonathan Hand QC successful in appeal

Jonathan Hand QC successfully represented Joan Kember in the High Court in Joan Kember (as Personal Representative of the Estate of Leonard Kember, Deceased, and on behalf of herself and all other dependants) v (1) Croydon Health Services NHS Trust (2) King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust [2019] EWHC 2297. The case was an appeal against the decision not to grant an extension of time or relief from sanctions following late service of the Defendants’ Defence to a clinical negligence claim bought by Joan Kember. The clinical negligence claim arose following the death of her husband after a series of alleged failures in the care provided by the Defendants leading to a fatal delay in coronary artery bypass surgery. Advocacy training at the DIFC Academy of Law, with Keith Bryant QC and Jonathan Hand QC

As part of the newly-created Certificate in Common Law and DIFC Courts Practice, Keith Bryant QC and Jonathan Hand QC have successfully delivered training on Appeal Advocacy and judged the final Advocacy Assessment Exercises for students at the DIFC Academy of Law in Dubai. The group was made up of some twenty aspiring trial lawyers, all of whom have benefitted from three sessions of advocacy training run by Outer Temple barristers John McKendrick QC, James Counsell QC, Fiona Horlick QC and Benjimin Burgher, since the beginning of 2019. Jonathan Hand successfully defends racehorse trainer

Jonathan Hand recently acted for racehorse trainer Ed Walker Ltd in a claim brought by a rider from his yard who suffered a head injury whilst on the gallops at Newmarket. The rider fell from the horse, a two year old in training at the yard, when it was spooked and whipped round, causing both horse and rider to fall. The claim was brought under s.2(2) of the Animals Act 1971, which imposes strict liability for damage caused by animals of a non-dangerous species where certain conditions are met. Jonathan was instructed by Jo Levy of Knights Solicitors, acting for the defendant trainer’s insurers.
