Outer Temple’s James Counsell QC and Justina Stewart will be providing advocacy training as part of the DIFC Laws Certificate programme. This talk will take place on 25th-26th July 2022. The DIFC Academy are hosting a course named ‘Advanced Advocacy Skills’ which is part of the Certificate in Common Law, DIFC Laws & Courts Practice programme. The course will explore the application of traditional advocacy skills to activities routinely performed by lawyers. Breakthrough in access to justice for victims of crypto fraud

Asset Reality, Grant Thornton UK LLP, Outer Temple Chambers, Rahman Ravelli and Sandton Capital collaborate to help victims of crypto-related fraud overcome access to justice hurdles. While crypto-related fraud reached an all-time high in 2021, with illicit addresses receiving US$14bn over the course of the year*, up 79% on the previous year, matters brought before courts remain comparatively low, in large part due to a lack of funding options for otherwise meritorious lower-value claims. OTC Members give advocacy training at the DIFC Academy of Law

Members of Outer Temple will be providing advocacy training at the DIFC Academy for pupils completing the Common Law Advanced Advocacy Skills. The DIFC Academy of Law have launched this course for Emirati Advocates and other civil law trained lawyers, in-house counsel, and legal professionals seeking to diversify their skills and enhance their professional development. Announcement of plans for synthetic LIBOR: panacea or pandora’s box?

John McKendrick QC, Justina Stewart and Chloë Bell write in the latest edition of the Journal of International Banking & Financial Law on potential public law implications of the UK Government’s plans for synthetic LIBOR to address tough legacy contracts. Plans announced in June 2020 to give the FCA enhanced powers to tackle “tough legacy” LIBOR contracts using “synthetic LIBOR” are intended to apply to a “narrow pool” of contracts.  It is still unclear how such contracts will be defined, whether the pool will in fact be narrow and how precisely the legislation and enhanced FCA powers will operate in relation to such contracts. Justina Stewart successfully secured summary judgment in the sum of over $ 17 million and an award of indemnity costs. The hard-fought application involved a plethora of interesting issues – including regarding the Hague Convention on Service and whether the High Court’s jurisdiction was supplanted in the context of a suite of documents containing different dispute resolution clauses.
