Chambers & Partners UK Bar Rankings 2023

Outer Temple Chambers is delighted to announce that we have once again been ranked as a leading set across eight practice areas in the 2023 edition of Chambers & Partners. Outer Temple Chambers members to attend Dubai Arbitration Week

11 members of the Outer Temple International Team will attend Dubai Arbitration Week, (DAW 22) between 14th & 18th November 2022. Outer Temple’s; David Russell KC, Andrew Spink KC, Philip Punwar, Justina Stewart, David Holloway, Sean Yates, Peter Linstead, Stephen Doherty, Lucian ILIE, Anson Cheung, and Sam Carter will be joining delegates at this year’s Dubai Arbitration Week. Outer Temple’s David E. Grant KC and Anson Cheung have been published in the November 2022 ELA Briefing. Their article is entitled ‘Restraint of trade and inequality of bargaining power’. David E. Grant and Anson Cheung have written an article for the November 2022 ELA Briefing. Outer Temple barristers in EUWA 2018 pensions case

Andrew Short KC and Bianca Venkata, acting for the claimants, and Naomi Ling, acting for the Trustee, have appeared in an important case relating to age discrimination in pension schemes. Mrs Justice Eady, President, sitting in the EAT, found that claimants bringing claims of age discrimination against a private sector body after IP Completion date (31 December 2020) could not rely on general principles of EU law to disapply a provision [in the Equality Act (Age Exemptions for Pension Schemes) Regulations 2010] excluding all claims for age discrimination relating to pensionable service before 1 December 2006. Jack Brown has been shortlisted for Pro Bono Chambers’ Professional of the Year

Outer Temple are pleased to share that our Junior Clerk, Jack Brown, has been shortlisted in the ‘ProBono Chambers’ Professional of the Year’ category at the 2022 Bar Pro Bono Awards. In his role as a member of the clerking team, Jack facilitated a significant amount of Pro Bono Work between members of the public and members of Chambers over the past year. Jack has said “Guaranteeing equal access to justice for all is important to me, I am really pleased to be recognised for my role in working alongside an organisation as valuable for society as Advocate.” The Advocate 2022 Bar Pro Bono Awards Ceremony will take place on 2nd November 2022.

Sarah Crowther KC appointed as BHA Judicial Chair

Outer Temple Chambers warmly congratulates Sarah Crowther KC on her appointment as independent Judicial Chair of the British Horseracing Authority Judicial Panel. Sarah’s appointment will begin in January 2023 and she succeeds HH Brian Barker CBE KC. Further details of the BHA independent Judicial Panel can be found here. Jonathan Hand KC and David Holloway lead the third Advanced Advocacy session for the DIFC Academy

Outer Temple’s Jonathan Hand KC and David Holloway lead the third Advanced Advocacy session for the DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre) Academy on the 10th and 11th of October 2022. Jonathan Hand KC and David Holloway were the course tutors for the last of the three Advanced Advocacy sessions that the DIFC Academy put on again this year in association with OTC. The first day dealt with appeal advocacy, including presentations and workshops on written and oral advocacy. The second day was the Advocacy Assessment when all of the participants took part in an oral hearing held at the DIFC Court. Paul Rogers appointed Assistant Coroner

Outer Temple Chambers is delighted to announce that Paul Rogers has been appointed as HM Assistant Coroner for the Inner West London Coroners area. Paul will continue to practice as a full-time barrister. Paul appears regularly in Coroners Courts across the Country, as well as in the Criminal Courts concerning Regulatory Enforcement, particularly in respect of Health & Safety at work and the defence of Corporates and/or their Directors/Employees. Elaine Palser acts for successful claimant in proprietary estoppel challenge

Elaine Palser, instructed by Moore Barlow LLP, acted for the successful Claimant in Morley v Morley.  The Claimant was awarded a 50% beneficial interest in the substantial home of her late father and step-mother on the basis of proprietary estoppel, not only on her own behalf but also on behalf of her brother.   Facts The Claimant advanced her father (the Deceased) monies some 15 years ago to assist him in buying a substantial property with his then new partner, the Defendant.  The Deceased told the Claimant that if she advanced him these monies, she and her brother would inherit his 50% share in the property when he died.  The Deceased said that he would make a will to that effect,…

Harry Trusted and Olinga Tahzib spoke at Professional Negligence Bar Association event

On October 6th 2022, Harry Trusted and Olinga Tahzib presented a talk on the topic of Law and Statistics entitled ‘An Introduction to Statistics’ for the Professional Negligence Bar Association (PNBA). The Professional Negligence Bar Association is an organisation with some 900 members including 80 silks. The work undertaken by its members includes generic professional indemnity issues and specialisation concerning legal, clinical, financial and construction professionals, and extends to matters of ethics, discipline, regulatory control and public law accountability.
