9 members of Outer Temple’s International Team will be attending Dubai Arbitration Week (DAW 2024) between 11th – 15th November 2024, including The Bar Council Development event. Outer Temple’s David Russell KC, Andrew Spink KC, Philip Punwar, Justina Stewart, Sean Yates, Peter Linstead, Stephen Doherty, Lucian ILIE, and Lexie Johnson will be joining delegates at this year’s Dubai Arbitration Week. Six members of Outer Temple Chambers will visit Dubai in September and October to deliver the ‘Advanced Advocacy Skills’ training of the DIFC Laws Certificate Programme 2024 at the DIFC Academy. The DIFC Academy have invited Outer Temple Chambers to deliver the Advanced Advocacy Skills course as part of their DIFC Laws Certificate Programme 2024. This course will be presented by six KCs and barristers of Outer Temple Chambers in association with the DIFC Courts. This comprehensive training explores the application of traditional advocacy skills to activities routinely performed by lawyers. There will be series of both unassessed and assessed advocacy exercises. Representing the Respondent operators of the Mytaxi app (now called Free Now), Andrew Short QC and Peter Linstead have successfully opposed the Claimant’s appeal to the EAT of a decision that a London Hackney carriage driver using the taxi app was not a ‘worker’ when using the app to source and transport passengers. Introduction In a decision handed down on 18 January 2022 in Christopher Johnson v Transopco UK Ltd [2022] EAT 6, the EAT upheld the decision of the employment tribunal, where Peter Linstead appeared unled for Transopco, that although the driver had an obligation of personal service, the operator was a ‘client or customer’ of the driver’s business for the purposes of s.230(3) of the Employment Rights Act…
