Care and support under the Care Act 2014 – an introduction to Part 1 of the Act The Care Act 2014 replaces a patchwork of other pieces of social care legislation with a single system to establish eligibility to care and support for adults with needs and for carers. Alan Rawley QC’s memorial service

Alan Rawley QC (1934 – 2014) died on 26th August, aged 79, in Ibiza. Alan was called to the Bar in 1958, appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1977. He was still practising at the date of his death and had been a member of Chambers – in Lamb Building, then 35 Essex Street and then to Outer Temple – for the whole of his professional career. He served as Head of Chambers from 1989 (succeeding Sir David Calcutt QC) to 1996 and it was under his tenure that Chambers effected the move from Lamb Building to 35 Essex Street. John McKendrick speaks on Transparency in Mexico City

John will give a presentation to 600 members of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in Mexico City, on the 10th November 2014. John will discuss themes of transparency; the link between the rule of law and economic growth and how the UK Bribery Act 2010 can assist in strengthening the rule of law. In addition, John will meet with various stakeholders in Mexico as a guest of the British Embassy, including the national prosecution authorities. John is the author of the Latin American Chapter of Lissack and Horlick on Bribery and most recently has worked in Panama, El Salvador, Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana in 2014. He will be working in Panama, Guatemala and Honduras in January 2015.

Old Girls Allowed

On Thursday 23 May, Outer Temple Chambers was the venue for a rather unusual gathering, when Old Girls from Knighton House School – a prep school in Dorset – gathered from around the country to spend an evening ‘in conversation with Josceline Dimbleby’. Jossy Gaskell, as she was known when she attended Knighton in the 1950s, recalled memories of her time at the boarding school in Dorset and regaled the guests with stories of dungarees, bonfire night parties and dormitory fun and games. During her time at Knighton Josceline was a member of the choir and was noted for her singing, which is why the evening was made even more special with a performance by the school’s Chapel Choir who…
